French Musician Plans A Tribute to Acropolis - Report from International Herald Tribune
ATHENS (AP) - The Acropolis in Athens will get a modern tribute later this month when the French musician Jean-Michel Jarre performs a tailor-made concert at the foot of the ancient hill.
Entitled "Hymn to the Acropolis," the performance will feature the newly composed "Acropolis" along with a medley of older music "re-orchestrated for the occasion" of being played at its namesake, Mr. Jarre said Tuesday.
"The scenography itself is for the Acropolis and will never be repeated."
Mr. Jarre, who is known for the spectacular light shows that accompany his electronic music, will perform at the 1,800-year-old Herod Atticus theatre on June 19 and 20 as part of an annual festival that combines classical and modern music, ancient Greek drama, ballet and modern dance.
