Jean Michel Jarre has recently spoken out about problems in releasing past concerts on DVD. At the premiere of the new French film Asterix et Obélix - Mission Cléopâtre, he has been reported to have said that there are problems with the rights for past concerts being released on DVD. The news is reported in the latest issue of French magazine Les Années Laser, issue 79, March 2002.
Whether this is the case or not for more recent concerts is unclear, such as The Twelve Dreams of the Sun and Akropolis. Jean Michel has been unahppy with the recordings of the past two shows; he was not satisified with the sound quality of the recording by MMTV for The Twelve Dreams of the Sun, while for Akropolis he did not have his wish for his first choice camera crew (strangely enough MMTV, after the Egypt episode!), and the Greek organisers got their way with Star TV handed the contract. Apparently some of the Greek people involved in the conception of the show have relations who are senior figures at Star TV...
Therefore it seems at the moment, that Jarre fans will have to put up with Oxygen in Moscow as the only DVD release, released in the USA during November 2000 and recently cover mounted with the Brazilan magazine DVD Total (both releases are region free - will play on any DVD player).
Many thanks to David 'DV' Vaisse for the information about the article in Les Années Laser.
